Positioning Mentors as Social Capital Builders
In partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies, this project will design and test the effectiveness of a mentoring-focused toolkit aimed at enhancing youth social capital development as young people develop and pursue life goals.
Members of the Search Institute research team include Ashley Boat, Ph.D. and Erica Van Steenis, Ph.D..
The project is funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
The project is composed of three phases:
- Identify the mechanisms through which formal mentoring relationships support mentee social capital development
- Co-create a toolkit that mentors can implement into their practice that will help them intentionally and collaboratively cultivate mentees' social capital
- Empirically test the effectiveness of the toolkit in strengthening mentoring relationships and youth social capital
