Nanyamka Redmond, Ph.D.

Nanyamka is an applied research scientist whose research advances the understanding of how important relational networks impact young people, with the goal of advancing wellbeing, character, and equity. Before joining Search Institute, Nanyamka worked with adolescents as a high school teacher and track coach, a youth pastor, mentor and therapist. She has also worked as a Director of School Partnership for Character Lab, co-founded by Angela Duckworth. Nanyamka is an expert on positive youth development with a focus on how relational support networks impact adolescent performance. She received her PhD in Applied Developmental Psychology from Fuller Seminary. She also has a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University. Nanyamka is deeply committed to social justice for marginalized communities through empowerment and robust research. She is dedicated to making psychological research relatable and understandable as well as bridging the gap between psychological science and practical applications for families and youth workers.
