This or That
Involve students in deciding what types of assignments you will provide for homework by using a this-or-that template.
By providing binary options for students, you learn what they dislike strongly, what they feel indifferent about, and what they love. By noticing trends and common themes among students, teachers can gain insight into which types of assignments would be met with resistance among students. They can then collaborate to establish classroom norms around the homework practices that are at the teacher’s disposal throughout the year. Ultimately, the teacher and students can decide together about a path forward.
